A prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Engr. Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the Sarkin Gombe and other key stakeholders to intervene in the ongoing leadership dispute involving Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is laying claim to the party’s leadership.
Kwankwaso appealed for calm and urged that Nafiu Bala Gombe be advised to withdraw from actions he described as capable of fueling internal conflict within the party. He emphasized the need for respected traditional and family authorities to step in and guide the young politician appropriately.
According to Kwankwaso, he had previously extended an invitation to Nafiu Bala Gombe for a peaceful meeting aimed at resolving the dispute through dialogue. However, despite initially agreeing to attend, Nafiu failed to honor the invitation.
“I made sincere efforts to meet with him so we could resolve the issue amicably, but unfortunately, he did not show up, even after confirming his attendance,” Kwankwaso stated, noting that he had earlier been cautioned that the meeting might not materialize.
The former Governor of Kano State reiterated that he has no regrets joining the ADC, stressing that his decision was driven by a genuine commitment to national service and strengthening democratic values in Nigeria.
Kwankwaso described Nafiu as a young individual in need of proper guidance and mentorship, urging him to reflect carefully on his actions, especially given the broader implications such disputes could have on millions of Nigerians seeking credible leadership.
In an interview with DCL, Kwankwaso further revealed that upon reviewing relevant documents, it became evident that Nafiu Bala Gombe had previously resigned from a position and participated in party activities under the leadership of David Mark, during which he was fully integrated into the party structure before his sudden change in position.
He concluded by calling on Nigerians who are committed to democratic progress to continue registering for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and to actively participate in the ADC as part of collective efforts to bring about meaningful change in governance.
Kwankwaso also underscored the importance of unity, peace, and adherence to democratic principles, warning that any attempt to incite division could undermine national stability.
