Thousands of members and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday flooded the streets of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, in a massive protest calling for urgent reforms within the nation’s electoral system and leadership recognition within the party.
The demonstrators, drawn from various parts of the country, gathered in large numbers to express their dissatisfaction with the current leadership stance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), particularly demanding the immediate suspension of its chairman over alleged bias and administrative irregularities.
The protesters also called on INEC to officially recognize Senator David Mark as the legitimate National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, insisting that due process and internal party resolutions must be respected without external interference.

Leading the protest were prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi. The high-profile leaders marched alongside party loyalists toward the headquarters of INEC, chanting slogans and carrying placards with inscriptions demanding justice, transparency, and adherence to democratic principles.

Addressing the crowd during the protest, the leaders emphasized the need for electoral integrity and warned against actions that could undermine Nigeria’s democratic foundations. They reiterated that the ADC remains committed to lawful and peaceful engagement but would not hesitate to defend the will of its members.
Security personnel were visibly deployed across major routes leading to the INEC headquarters to ensure that the protest remained peaceful and orderly. As of the time of filing this report, there were no confirmed cases of violence, though traffic disruptions were recorded in parts of the city.
