Fresh controversy has emerged in Yobe State following allegations of contract irregularities involving Damuli Investment Company Nigeria Limited, a firm reportedly linked to influential figures within the state government.
The issue, which first gained public attention in September 2025, continues to stir debate among stakeholders, community leaders, and political observers across the state.
According to reports, the company has been associated with multiple government contracts worth billions of naira, many of which are alleged to be either abandoned or poorly executed. A petition by concerned elders from Gujba Local Government Area raised alarm over the disbursement of over ₦1.49 billion for the construction and renovation of the Government Lodge in Gujba, claiming that despite full payment, little progress has been recorded.
Further findings indicate that out of approximately 32 projects reportedly awarded to the firm, only one has been satisfactorily completed. Several others are said to be below 50 percent completion, even though payments were allegedly made in full.
Key sectors affected include healthcare infrastructure across major towns such as Damaturu, Potiskum, Nguru, Geidam, Gashua, and Damagun—raising concerns about service delivery and the welfare of residents.
The reports have also drawn attention to a possible connection between the company and the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali. While no official wrongdoing has been established, the alleged relationship has fueled speculation, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Yobe State.
Despite the allegations, the company has also been credited with executing some legitimate projects. Notably, it handled a ₦272 million contract awarded in September 2024 for the construction of an administrative block at Mai Idriss Alooma Polytechnic in Geidam, alongside participation in other educational initiatives.
Meanwhile, the Yobe State House of Assembly has come under criticism over its handling of the matter. Some observers have questioned the outcome of its probe, alleging that the company was cleared despite what they describe as evidence of underperformance.
As the 2027 elections approach, the situation continues to shape political discourse in the state, with growing speculation around succession plans following the tenure of Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Observers have called for caution and due process, urging relevant authorities to conduct transparent investigations to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
