As the world prepares to mark International Mother Earth Day on April 22, 2026, the Kaduna State Climate Change Accountability Mechanism (KADCCAM) has joined the global community in calling for urgent and sustained action to protect the environment. In a statement signed by its Co-Chair, Ibrahima Yakubu, the body emphasized the growing threats posed by environmental degradation and climate change, urging stakeholders to intensify efforts toward safeguarding the planet. KADCCAM highlighted key environmental challenges such as deforestation, pollution, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss, noting that these issues continue to endanger livelihoods, public health, and sustainable development across communities. To address these concerns, the mechanism advocated practical and sustainable measures, including afforestation and reforestation initiatives, improved waste management systems to reduce plastic pollution, the adoption of renewable energy, and stricter enforcement of environmental regulations. The group also stressed the importance of climate education and increased public awareness, aimed at promoting responsible environmental practices at individual, community, and institutional levels. Furthermore, KADCCAM called for greater investment in climate-resilient agriculture, efficient water conservation strategies, and sustainable urban development to enhance resilience against climate-related risks. It added that strong collaboration among government agencies, the private sector, civil society organizations, and local communities remains critical to achieving meaningful and lasting progress. As the global community marks Earth Day, KADCCAM urged all stakeholders to take proactive and sustained steps to protect the environment and ensure a healthier, more sustainable future for Kaduna State and beyond.
